Born 1937 in Alexandria (Egypt) of Judeo-French and Catholic Italian complex heritage in a Muslim country. Graduated at University of Paris (Sorbonne). Adult life in Lausanne (Switzerland) for 8 years. Moved to Australia (Canberra based) in 1966, with periods in Papua New Guinea and Iran. . Awarded the French honor of Chevalier dans l’ordre des Palmes Académiques, in 1983. Settled in Alice Springs since 1985. Maya has 2 daughters and 3 grand-sons. She now lives on her own with her cat.
