The Satellite Sessions was a pilot livestream program that took place as part of the 2017 NT Writers’ Festival.
We were thrilled to partner with libraries and art centres in Tennant Creek, Batchelor, Borroloola, Darwin, Ngukurr, Palmerston and Port Augusta. Thanks again to all of the venues and Satellite audiences for being part of this year’s Festival program.
For us, the Satellite Sessions were an experiment in technology, and in connecting up with different parts of our unique region over conversations that, we think, can only be had here.
It was wonderful to be sharing our Festival program further afield; to be using technology to cross some of the distance that characterises the NT, to make connections between places that share cultural similarities, and to be connecting back to communities that some of our contributing writers, storytellers and songwomen live, write and work.
We are still in the process of gathering feedback and evaluating the project. Our venue survey can be found here. This information will inform how we run the project in 2018 when our Festival returns again to Darwin.
This project is supported by a Festival Outreach grant from the Australia Council for the Arts.
