Maurice O’Riordan

Maurice O’Riordan is a Darwin-based writer, curator and publisher. He has curated 17 exhibitions to date and has edited a number of publications through such roles as Manager, Batchelor Institute Press (current), Director, Northern Centre for Contemporary Art, and Editor, Art Monthly Australia/Australasia.
He is also currently curator of the Batchelor Institute Art Collection. He has been a freelance arts writer since the early 1990s with articles published in numerous Australian and international publications. In 2023, Maurice established dishevel books as “an independent publisher of art-related titles with a bent for subjects sassy, scholarly and subversive”, launching its first title Heat: Gary Lee, selected texts, art and anthropology in the same year and followed by Keep Him My Heart: A Larrakia-Filipino Love Story (Gary Lee, 2024). Maurice is currently working on a book on the art of the late Andrew Hau Ewing (1964-2021).
