A’Mhara McKey is a Darwin-based writer who writes the stories she loves to read. Stories of romance and mystery, haunting landscapes and history. Stories of strong women in difficult situations. Her work has won and been shortlisted for various awards.
A’Mhara won a 2020 ArtsNT Varuna Fellowship for her unpublished manuscript, The Shores Between, a novel immersed in the rich history and folklore of the remote Orkney Islands in Scotland. The Fellowship included a two-week residency at Varuna, The National Writers House, where A’Mhara worked on her second novel, Blackwood Manor, set in the west coast wilderness of Tasmania and inspired by the story of Gentleman Brady, one of Australia’s first bushrangers.
