Performance Poetry – with Nigel Ford
Are you interested in performing poetry? Perhaps you just need a few pointers to get yourself to the next level? In anticipation of the NT Poetry Slam Heat (28 July), the NTWC has invited travelling poet Nigel Ford to take you through performance techniques, microphone skills, breathing and memory exercises to help bring your poetry to life. There will be an opportunity to practice in front of a friendly group and receive critical feedback at your discretion. Writing techniques will also be covered, so bringing a finished poem isn’t a necessity, but having an idea and a first draft is recommended to get the most out of your time.
Nigel Ford is Convenor & Regional Community Development Manager of ‘Friendly Street Poets’ which has been organising poetry events & publishing anthologies in South Australia since 1975. He organises & MC’s over 30 events a year, including the monthly ‘Poetry On The Fleurieu’ readings at Goolwa’s Signal Point Gallery & poetry events & slams at the Adelaide Fringe, Salisbury Writers’ Festival & in regional areas of SA. Nigel is a multiple poetry slam winner, including the 2015 Darwin Poetry Cup, 2014 World Poetry Day SA Slam & the 2012 Australian Poetry Festival Slam.
