Ayeye thipe-akerte: Arrernte stories about birds with Therese Ryder
Arrernte artist Therese Ryder extends her creative repertoire to place thipe mabe ‘birds’ amid Arrernte landscapes in this exquisite book published by Batchelor Press. Combining painting, writing and voice recordings, the book offers an Arrernte perspective on birds as part of the natural world, describing their behaviour, diet, habitat, and their role in traditional diet. Therese’s stories also give readers a glimpse of the cultural significance of birds as messengers and spirits. The book has a companion App, so you can hear Therese read her stories and listen to the bird calls!
This book launch took place as part of the 2017 NT Writers’ Festival–Alice Springs, Iwerre Atherre | Crossings, brought to you by the NT Writers’ Centre.
