Walk a Different Way

In 1974, the year Darwin was devastated by Cyclone Tracey, there occurred the 150th anniversary of white settlement in the Northern Territory. To commemorate this latter event, the Fellowship of Australian Writers sponsored a Literary Competition, the theme for which was Aboriginal/European relations.

As it turned out, many of the contributions tended to view the first Australians with a compassionate eye often clouded by ignorance of the Aboriginal dilemma.

The response to the competition was most gratifying and before long entries in poetry, prose and drama were arriving from all parts of Australia. It is from this pool of manuscripts that the contents of this anthology have been chosen.
