The Verse Novel with Leni Shilton

$45.00

The verse novel – a story told in poetry – is a relatively unknown form of poetic writing, and yet it has been around for over a hundred years. How does poetry hold a narrative? What is this genre about? In this workshop we will look at how a verse novel can explore history and tell stories in poetry. This workshop is open to anyone who would like to explore new ways of writing fiction, memoir, or history, using poetic and narrative techniques.

Leni Shilton is a poet, teacher and researcher. She has lived in Alice Springs for over thirty years. Leni has a PhD in creative writing. She is a founding member of the Ptilotus Press, a small publishing initiative which promotes central Australian writing. Her verse novel Walking with camels – the story of Bertha Strehlow was published by UWAP in 2018. Her second verse novel Malcolm will be released in 2019 (UWAP).
