
First Writers Announced | 2019 NT Writers’ Festival–Alice Springs
Announcing the first line-up of writers joining us for the 2019 NT Writers’ Festival–Alice Springs.
Violet Wadrill is a senior Gurindji cultural custodian, and one of the four authors of Karu: Growing up Gurindji, to be published in 2019. This bi-lingual book celebrates Indigenous childrearing practices. Artist and storyteller, Violet was a finalist in the National Not-For-Profit Digital Technology Award for Storytelling in 2018. Along with co-authors Biddy Wavehill Yamawurr, Topsy Dodd Ngarnjal and Research Fellow in Linguistics at the University of Queensland, Felicity Meakins, Violet has worked extensively on the documentation of her language and the growing body of Gurindji work.

Patti Miller is the author of The Last One Who Remembers,Whatever The Gods Do, The Mind of a Thief, Ransacking Paris,Child, (Allen & Unwin) and writing texts, Writing Your Life, The Memoir Book and Writing True Stories. The Joy of High Places will be published in 2019. Patti is published in newspapers and journals, including SMH, The Age, The Australian, Island, Southerly, Meanjin. She teaches writing at universities, Faber Academy, Writers’ Centres and in Paris and London.

Charmaine Papertalk Green was born at Eradu on the Greenough River between Mullewa and Geraldton on Amangu country, and is a member of the Wajarri and Badimaya groups from the Yamaji Nation of Western Australia. She is a visual and installation artist, poet and writer and was instrumental in the incubation of the nationally and internationally touring exhibition Ilgarijiri – things belonging to the sky arts and cultural project.

Award-winning writer Merlinda Bobis has four novels, six poetry books and nine dramatic works, some of which she performed for stage and radio. For her, writing is homecoming: a return to roots, a retrieval through memory, and a reckoning with loss hopefully with care and grace. Her novel, Locust Girl. A Lovesong, received the 2016 Christina Stead Prize for Fiction and the Philippine National Book Award. Accidents of Composition is her latest poetry collection.
