Theresa Penangke Alice

Theresa Penangke Alice is a senior Arrernte Traditional Owner with strong ties to Ltyentye Apurte Santa Teresa, 85km southeast of Mparntwe Alice Springs. Theresa lives in the remote community of Amoonguna which is very close to an important dreaming site for the Yeperenye dreaming.

Theresa has a long history of working in the education system and is a passionate advocate of Arrernte language, pedagogies and curriculum in Central Australian schools. She has a Masters in Indigenous Knowledges from Charles Darwin University and has just commenced a PhD with Batchelor Institute.

Theresa is a valued board director of Running Water Community Press (RWCP) and her poetry is published in the popular title Arelhekenhe Angkentye: Women’s Talk (RWCP, 2022). Her poems have been selected by Australian Poetry to feature in their journals including Best of Australian Poems 2021. Theresa was recently involved in a film series co-created by GARUWA and RWCP in which she shares her poetry and stories in Arrernte language from her homelands of Urremerne.
