Dani Powell grew up in Meanjin/Brisbane. She has lived in Mparntwe/ Alice Springs for the past twenty years and directed the NTWF from 2015-2021. Dani writes fiction, essays and poetry, and her location-based performances have been produced in and around Mparntwe as well as for ABC’s Radio National. Dani’s novel Return to Dust (UWA Publishing, 2020) won the NT Chief Minister’s Award for Fiction in 2022. She has recently been awarded a Varuna Fellowship to work on her second novel The Weight of Birds.
