Second Festival Lineup Announcement

NT Writers Festival are delighted to announce that John Safran, Jackie Huggins AM, Sarah Holland-Batt, and Witiyana Marika will be joining us at this year’s NT Writers Festival!

An author, satirist and documentary-maker, John Safran uses his trademark humour and wit to expose the machinations of those in power. His latest book, Puff Piece: How Philip Morris set vaping alight (and burned down the English language), is an entertaining and probing look at Big Tobacco and the vaping industry, and at how words can literally be a matter of life and death.

Jackie Huggins AM is a Bidjara and Birri Gubba Juru author, historian, academic and advocate. With her sister, Ngaire Jarro, she recently co-authored, Jack of Hearts, a moving biography of their father, Jack, and his role as an Aboriginal soldier in World War II. A new edition of her seminal collection of essays and speeches, Sister Girl: Reflections of Tiddaism, Identity and Reconciliation, is also out now with University of Queensland Press.

Sarah Holland-Batt is a multi award-winning poet, editor and critic. Her second volume of poetry, The Hazards, won Australia’s foremost award for poetry, the Prime Minister’s Literary Award. Her latest collection of poetry, The Jaguar, confronts, with electrifying boldness, what it means to be mortal through a deeply humane portrait of a father’s Parkinson Disease.

Witiyana Marika is an Elder of the Rirratjingu clan of the Yolŋu people and a musician, dancer, actor and filmmaker, known for being one of the founding members of Yothu Yindi. He has worked closely with Darwin-based journalist, Matt Garrick, on the authorised biography of Yothu Yindi, Writing in the Sand.

These brilliant writers and storytellers are part of an exciting program launching on Fri 13 May. Save the date in your diaries so you can head online to buy tickets as soon as they go on sale next week!

If you’re keen to see lots of events this year, early bird passes are on sale now. At $150/$120, they’re a bargain too!
