2020 NT Writers Festival Postponed
We regret to announce that the NT Writers Festival can no longer go ahead as scheduled in May, and will be postponed until October 1-4, 2020.
“The Federal Government announcement banning non-essential gatherings of more than 100 people as part of the management of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) makes our decision clear. The health and safety of our participating writers, guests, patrons, staff, volunteers and the NT community is paramount,” said Festival Director, Fiona Dorrell. “It is disheartening to see festivals all over the country cancelling. We know the impact this will have on audiences, artists and the sector, Australia-wide. We are fortunate to be in a position to reschedule, many events and festivals aren’t.”
“Our arts and culture is more important than ever in times of change and uncertainty. We believe our 2020 Festival theme, When the tides turn, Gunamidirra garawa birditj, will be as relevant later this year as it is right now. We will be re-inviting the same list of artists and hope that most will be available to participate in the many pressing conversations that recent events invite. The line-up of fantastic new and recent books we plan to celebrate hasn’t changed.”
“We anticipate that in the recent wave of cancellations and closures the news will be equally welcomed by audiences, partners and local businesses.”
“Huge thanks to everyone who has been involved so far for their enthusiasm, commitment, and patience as we work through these challenges. Our sincere apologies in the meantime for the inconvenience, disappointment, loss of business and opportunity. We wish everyone all the support in these unprecedented times.”
NT Writers Festival looks forward to sharing a thoughtfully curated program featuring international, interstate and local writers and artists that celebrates our region’s cultural and linguistic diversity at the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens later this year.
Ticket sales for the Early Bird All Panel Pass will re-open in August. We look forward to revealing our full program in September.
